HOW TO MAKE HALLOWEEN GHOST PIES
In a small bowl, mix together the egg white and water, and beat them well.
Roll out the pie crust dough on a lightly floured surface until it’s about 1/4 inch thick.
Place the ghost stencils on the dough and cut out ghost shapes using a knife. If you have a ghost-shaped cookie cutter, you can use that to make it easier.
Spoon a small amount of blueberry or strawberry jam onto the center of half of the ghost shapes, leaving a small border around the edges.
Take the remaining ghost shapes and place them on top of the jam-filled shapes. Press the edges together gently to seal the hand pies.
Use a fork to press down on the edges of the hand pies, creating a decorative pattern and ensuring a tight seal.
Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
Brush the tops of the hand pies with the egg wash mixture.
Place the hand pies in the air fryer basket, making sure to leave some space between them for even cooking.
Air fry the hand pies for 6-8 minutes, or until they turn golden brown and crispy. You may need to cook them in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.
Once cooked, remove the hand pies from the air fryer and let them cool slightly before serving.
TIPS FOR SUCCESS
-
If you don’t have ghost stencils or a ghost-shaped cookie cutter, you can create your own stencil by printing out a ghost shape on a piece of paper and cutting it out. Then, use the paper stencil as a guide to cut the ghost shapes on the dough with a knife.
-
You can experiment with different fillings apart from blueberry or strawberry jam. Consider using apple pie filling, chocolate hazelnut spread, or any other sweet filling of your choice.
-
If you prefer a sweeter touch, you can sprinkle a little sugar on top of the hand pies before air frying them.
-
Serve the hand pies warm with a dusting of powdered sugar, a drizzle of icing, or a dollop of whipped cream for added flavor and presentation.
-
If you notice the hand pies browning too quickly in the air fryer, you can tent them with aluminum foil to prevent further browning while allowing them to cook through.
